چکیده
Background Leaf functional traits can influence the ability of plants to grow when facing stresses. Climate changes impose fundamental impacts on plant growth, especially at high mountains. Yet little is known about relationships between leaf and elevations in tree species above 4000 m a.s.l.Aims Our objective was investigate compare trend water use efficiency (WUE) Tibetan juniper (Juniperus tibetica) along elevation gradients under different climate conditions, by presenting evidence from traits, simultaneously clarify underlying mechanisms. Methods We investigated various i.e. carbon (δ13C) oxygen (δ18O) isotopic composition, N P concentration specific area (SLA) J. tibetica, a dominant treeline, three study sites 4150 4950 a.s.l. Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Results As increased, δ13C, used as proxy for WUE, whereas δ18Odecreased tibetica. Narea also increased with elevation. Conclusions deduced that increasing WUE due enhanced photosynthetic capacity all sites, may enhance photosynthesis hence WUE.

Legumes are different: Leaf nitrogen, photosynthesis, and water use efficiency.
Using robust, pairwise comparisons and a global dataset, we show that nitrogen concentration per unit leaf mass for nitrogen-fixing plants (N2FP; mainly legumes plus some actinorhizal species) in nonagricultural ecosystems is universally greater (43-100%) than that for other plants (OP). This difference is maintained across Koppen climate zones and growth forms and strongest in the wet tropics ...
متن کاملPhytochrome B enhances photosynthesis at the expense of water-use efficiency in Arabidopsis.
In open places, plants are exposed to higher fluence rates of photosynthetically active radiation and to higher red to far-red ratios than under the shade of neighbor plants. High fluence rates are known to increase stomata density. Here we show that high, compared to low, red to far-red ratios also increase stomata density in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana). High red to far-red ratios incre...

Snowmelt Runoff and Water Yield along Elevation and Temperature Gradients in California’s Southern Sierra Nevada
Differences in hydrologic response across the rain-snow transition in the southern Sierra Nevada were studied in eight headwater catchments – the Kings River Experimental Watersheds – using continuous precipitation, snowpack, and streamflow measurements. The annual runoff ratio (discharge divided by precipitation) increased about 0.1 per 300 m of mean catchment elevation over the range 1,800-2,...
متن کاملCommunity assembly and functional leaf traits mediate precipitation use efficiency of alpine grasslands along environmental gradients on the Tibetan Plateau
The alpine grasslands on the Tibetan Plateau are sensitive and vulnerable to climate change. However, it is still unknown how precipitation use efficiency (PUE), the ratio of aboveground net primary productivity (ANPP) to precipitation, is related to community assembly of plant species, functional groups or traits for the Tibetan alpine grasslands along actual environmental gradients. We conduc...
